The 21st annual Maintenance and Reliability Conference, MARCON 2017, will be held March 6 – 9, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The theme is “The Reliability of Everything (ROE) –  The Future is Now.” We are excited to announce that SDI’s own Reliability Engineers Harry Woodard and Robert Schwenk will be presenting their paper: Best Practices to Increase Efficiency and Productivity while Reducing MRO Spend.

MARCON’s intimate size allows the attendees to collaborate one-on-one with the presenters, exhibitors and other attendees. Robert and Harry join a distinguished group of professionals, sharing best practices and information on new and emerging technologies, methods and techniques in Reliability and Maintenance Engineering and Management. Reliability Engineers (RE’s), are tasked to consistently improve the operation and life cycles of systems. Many of the improvements are derived from changes in materials, which they add or remove from the identified system. Harry and Robert’s presentation focuses on the MRO and Indirect Spend.

MRO costs can add up to a significant portion of expenses for a business.  Unfortunately, this is the cost a business pays to remain in operation. Without spare parts and other associated materials, operations would cease to exist. Reliability Engineers can focus on these expenses that will improve the bottom line. In their paper, Harry and Robert define MRO and provide examples and case histories of successful Continuous Improvement projects that reduce MRO costs and improve reliability.

RE experts in MRO, understand challenges inherent in storeroom management, maintenance operations, and production floor processes. RE’s help identify cost improvement solutions in maintenance, operations and storeroom inventory. They make informed recommendations for parts and products that will help reduce inventory excess and provide value-added benefits.

The case for placing RE’s in the MRO environment has proven to be extremely valuable.  Examples of efficiency and productivity savings is gained in OEM commercialization, BOM improvements, warranty tracking and repairs while using state of the art tools for engineering services.
