What gets measured gets managed is often attributed to the management expert Peter Drucker. At SDI, we have a different perspective on this management proverb – what gets managed gets measured. When an end-to-end view of MRO is obtained, it allows problems to be accurately identified, measured, and resolved. Managing MRO beyond a functional orientation to a process orientation shifts visibility and measurement from the cost of parts to the effective management of assets.

The last installment in this series by Spend Matters, talks about how the next generation of supply chains will be MRO-powered.

The bottom line is that as physical assets increasingly get wrapped with sensors and software, they can become much more valuable.
