Order-To-Shipment Tracking

Knowing when the part is going to arrive is a game-changer when it comes to optimizing technician time. And the ability to track shipments varies from supplier to supplier. Often the technicians, who have multiple open work orders at multiple facilities, have little to no visibility on which items have arrived at which site, without actually making a trip to the site to verify. Generally, the technician is traveling from site to site with the hopes that the needed items have arrived, so the job can be completed. This means an increase in drive time and a decrease in tool time, everyday.

SDI’s IPM program places order tracking right in the mobile app so technicians can better plan their work schedules and reduce the travel time.

SDI has developed API connections with major shippers like UPS and FedEx that allow real-time delivery updates
based on tracking information.When a PO is confirmed, SDI often a tracking number through sources such as EDI and the supplier portal. 

Once SDI receives tracking information associated with a PO line, the status of that order is automatically checked multiple times per day through connections with our logistics partners. If the order's expected delivery date changes, or the order status changes to “carrier shipped”, “out for delivery” or “delivered” an automation will update the app reflecting the new status, estimated dev date, as well as the tracking number for reference.

Measurable impact. 

These status changes trigger an email update to the technician who requested the items on the PO, if they checked the box for email status updates while placing the order, and can also send a push notification through the app. These notifications will allow technicians to plan around more precise delivery targets. The impact of this automation will be measurable through KPIs that track order cycle time, since updates will happen as soon as the system detects a status update. 

From the IPM app, customers receive real-time updates when orders are shipped, out for delivery, and delivered. All of which helps them better plan their maintenance schedules and be more proactive.
