Excellence in MRO Awards

Share insights. Build Community. Lead Change.

Excellence is a process, not a destination.  Excellence is about adapting to different challenges and different environments.  Excellence changes the conversation from cost centers to enabling processes.  Excellence is pragmatic and steeped in real life experiences.  Excellence moves beyond trial and error to open and transparent sharing.  MRO Excellence is equal parts, people, process, technology and culture.

SDI -- in partnership with Peerless Media, Penn States Center for Supply Chain Research and the University of Tennessee’s Reliability and Maintainability Center -- is excited to launch the Excellence in MRO Awards, and we invite you to submit an application at If you have arrived at Excellence then let others learn from you.  If you are progressing towards Excellence then participate to accelerate your learning.  If you haven’t started on the journey towards Excellence then be inspired to move forward by others in the community.

Participation in the Excellence in MRO Awards process provides real-world opportunities to improve MRO processes across your enterprise.  Every participant receives a report comparing your response to our benchmark group.  We supplement the report with relevant client insights and industry best practices.

Additionally, participants gain exposure to a community of like-minded change agents for knowledge exchange with our judges, sponsors, participants and employees.  Award winners will have an opportunity to be recognized by their organization and their peers as leading-edge MRO innovators. Award winners will be featured on program sponsors’ websites and within industry publications. Recognition continues with mentions in SDI press releases and marketing materials as well as exposure and a chance to present their case study at the Q4 2017 Innovation Symposium.

The award process will recognize a critical few critical innovators in the MRO space, but our goal is to elevate everyone who engages in the process…now and into the future.

Success Story

It takes a progressive manager to push the organization to look at indirect spend and managing it in a different way - but once you see it, then you realize the opportunity.

SDI at Work

In the third post in this series on MRO As-a-Service by Spend Matters, Pierre Mitchell and Michael Lamoureux talk about how managing MRO as a process delivers benefits from efficiency to effectiveness and beyond to an evolutionary phase. The next generation of value, MRO-as-a-Service, helps organizations build intelligent, agile, scalable and integrated supply chains (direct and indirect).

The project team has worked its way through Define, Measure, Analyze, and Improve. It’s time to begin the Control phase. The key stakeholders gather to evaluate the solution as implemented and create a plan to sustain the improvements. The goal is to standardize the improved processes, establish an audit schedule and schedule periodic follow-up to identify additional opportunities for improvement.
