Like the name implies, FlexMRO™ puts control of MRO supply chain management in your hands – if you choose.
"If you choose” because while most companies outsource their non-core, yet mission-critical business processes, like managing the MRO supply chain, to a third party, sometimes outsourcing may not be the best answer.
You may have an internal risk issue, or a political issue, and you need an alternative to outsourcing. Your best alternative might be a build-operate-transfer model – a way to use SDI to design and implement your MRO business processes, but later bring it back in-house.
This choice, this flexibility, is the idea behind FlexMRO – we build it, you control it.
How FlexMRO works:
First, there’s a collaborative design and build phase. SDI works with your team to set up the facility, infrastructure, staffing process and procedures for the full Enterprise MRO solution – or the select services you want as-a-service. SDI develops strategies to establish your facilities as Best-in-Class.
Next, we’ll transition your MRO process over to SDI, stabilize it, and operate your day-to-day functions to achieve improvements in reliability, simplicity, efficiency. SDI’s 45 years of MRO expertise, coupled with our heavy investment in MRO-specific technology, mitigate the risk of tackling a transformation project like this yourself.
Finally, and this is where flexibility really pays off, we’ll transfer it back to you after a period of 3 to 5 years – complete with training on our best-in-class processes and options to license SDI equipment and software.
Or, if you’d like more time with SDI, you always have the option to extend your contract. It’s all about what’s easiest for you and your operation. Like we say…we’re flexible.

Our former solution provider was not independent; they were a supplier of parts. It's not the best thing to have a supplier be your MRO outsourcing provider. With SDI, we have a truly independent sourcing agent looking after our best interests.
In the third post in this series on MRO As-a-Service by Spend Matters, Pierre Mitchell and Michael Lamoureux talk about how managing MRO as a process delivers benefits from efficiency to effectiveness and beyond to an evolutionary phase. The next generation of value, MRO-as-a-Service, helps organizations build intelligent, agile, scalable and integrated supply chains (direct and indirect).
The project team has worked its way through Define, Measure, Analyze, and Improve. It’s time to begin the Control phase. The key stakeholders gather to evaluate the solution as implemented and create a plan to sustain the improvements. The goal is to standardize the improved processes, establish an audit schedule and schedule periodic follow-up to identify additional opportunities for improvement.
